‘BIBC NEWS’ – 2018 September

Welcome to the September edition of your Club Newsletter.

May I, on behalf of the Management Committee extend a warm welcome on this, another new season, to all our members and especially any new members. We hope you enjoy your membership and the social side of bowling.

LED Lighting: We are going to extend the LED lighting (at present only on Rink 1) to the majority of the stadium. Replacing the lighting above the greens will be completed at night so there shouldn’t be any interruption to normal play.

Advertising & Promotions: The Club has also used a PA firm to erect 10 billboards (of our own design), over a period of 6 x 2 week cycles, around mostly the City’s main arterial routes. We have also advertised on one local radio station, Belfast 89.

Our Open Days for existing members are Tuesday 11th September and Thursday 13th from 4pm until 11pm.

Leagues: Normal Leagues start on Monday 17th September.  We are still taking entries for the Men’s Monday & Thursday evening, Wednesday Afternoon Senior Pairs, and a the new Mixed Pairs League on Monday afternoon (replacing the Ladies afternoon league).

We have successfully run 4 Summer leagues this year, and I can only see this number increasing.  The winners were as follows: Tuesday J Stewart & B Leckey, Wednesday S McDonald & C Thompson, Thursday J Trolan & N McQuade, Friday B & E Prunty.

Casual: We will be operating once again this year the popular afternoon mixed rinks bowling on Wednesday afternoons from 2-4pm.

Coaching: The new Coaching Session will start on Monday October 8th at 7.15pm. Hopefully members are encouraging friends and relatives to come and join the Club.

Rink fees: the Committee this year has decided to increase these to £4.50 per person per game. There has not been an increase for four years now and the Committee feels justified this year in the increase.

Subscriptions: Following on from the AGM, there will be no increase in the annual subscriptions this year.

Library: lots of new additions have been added to the shelves, so feel free to borrow and contribute what you think is a reasonable lending fee – thus supporting Cancer Research.

Cancelled Games : last year the Club lost over £5000 due to cancelled and postponed games. That is too much to sustain every year, and to some extent justifies the increase in rink fees. To help lower this figure the Competitions Secretary, Chris Eadie, has circulated a letter asking: ‘Do you really need to cancel that game?’  This year any games cancelled before 31st December will have 2 months to be re-arranged rather than just one. All games cancelled after 31st December will still have only one month to be played.
