‘BIBC NEWS’ –  2014 September

Welcome back all!

Hopefully you are all looking forward to an enjoyable season ahead.

However, looking back briefly first: our three summer leagues have run successfully and with our famous Ulster weather (at least August!), I see this number increasing in the future.

The usual summer work sprucing the place up has been ongoing, most noticeably the painting of the short mat boxes. Outdoors some painting has also occurred. Billy McConkey has done a good job here.

The Club was formed 50 years ago, so 2015 sees the anniversary obviously. We are planning for this event, and I am looking for pictures, mementoes and memories from our existing founder members. I plan to interview our founder members. More info on this as the year progresses.

Sadly, as I reported at the AGM, I have to announce the deaths of three of our older members: our Vice Chairman, John Nutt passed away after a short illness, as did Tom Kennedy. Both of these men made substantial contributions to the running of this Club. Another founder member, Brendan McBrien also passed away.

The AGM was held on August 25th saw a few changes to the Management Committee and I would like to welcome the new members aboard. For all the Sub Committees see my Noticeboard on the bottom green concourse.

Restaurant News : Alberta is starting Afternoon Teas as from October, from 2-4pm.

As I am sure you are all well aware by now, our outdoor bowlers (male) got a silver medal in Glasgow, and we would add our congratulations to 2 of our own members, Neil Mulholland and Paul Daly, along with Neil Booth. Ireland’s lady bowlers too did the province proud by picking up a bronze medal.

Congratulations also to Chloe Watson, Reece Millar and Stephen Kirkwood for being selected to represent Ireland at Under 18 level in Dunfermline in October.

Reminder to skips: if you are forced to make any changes to your rink, you must inform either Richard or John in the Office.

Postponed games: games postponed at the start of the season between 15th – 30th September can be re-arranged and played before November 1st.  Games postponed during the Christmas period between 16th- 31st December can be re-arranged and played before 1st February.

All other games have ONE MONTH from the date postponed to be played.

Byes: if you have a bye and wish to keep the rink you MUST inform the Duty Office the previous week, otherwise there is no guarantee the rink will be retained for you.

Fixtures are subject to change. Friday 5th of September sees the leagues published. Please ensure you are using the latest edition of same.
